The Story of Cosmetics with Annie Leonard

Please take a few minutes to watch the video below, The Story of Cosmetics, hosted by Annie Leonard, the creator of the viral video hit The Story of Stuff. The Story of Cosmetics examines the pervasive use of toxic chemicals in our everyday personal care products, from lipstick to baby shampoo. (learn more)

Just as this video was being launched, we received good news. On July 21st, the Safe Cosmetics Act of 2010 (HR 5786) was introduced, which gives the Food and Drug Administration authority to ensure that personal care products are free of harmful ingredients. Existing law, passed in 1938, granted decision-making about ingredient safety to the cosmetics industry. The extent of the problem is seriously alarming . In addition to the toxic chemicals there is the added problem that in many products the date of manufacture and expiry is not marked on the product . Those are marked on the packaging which is discarded to use the product.

It would be helpful to see lists of brands that offer safer alternatives to commercial , toxic chemical laden brands and products .

Thank you for reiterating this vital issue with your informative video. I always research all the ingredients of the cosmetics that I buy because I have sensitive skin. but I think everyone should care for the ingredients because some are harmful and we don't even know it!
